چکیده

Vocal folds oscillation crucially influences all the basic qualities of voice, such as pitch and loudness, as well as the spectrum. Stroboscopy provides the standard view of the larynx. Videokymography is a new diagnostic tool developed to overcome specific limitations of stroboscopy in severely dysphonic patients with an aperiodic signal. It registers the movements of the vocal folds with a high time resolution on a line perpendicular to the

Videokymography: a New High-Speed Method for the Examination of Vocal-Fold Vibrations

Videokymography is a new optical high-speed method for investigation of vibrations which was developed especially for examination of vocal-fold vibrations. Videokymography is based on a modified CCD video camera, which is able to work in two different modes: standard and high-speed. In the standard mode the camera works as a normal commercial video camera providing 25 images (50 interlaced fiel...

Videostrobokymography: a new method for the quantitative analysis of vocal fold vibration.

OBJECTIVES To develop a new analysis method for the quantitative assessment of vibration of the vocal folds, using conventional videostroboscopic image data. METHODS We used prerecorded videostroboscopic images to evaluate quantitatively the vibration of the vocal folds. Successive images were converted as digital images by means of an image-grabbing board, processed for analysis, and reconst...

What can be seen in videokymographic images?

Kymographic imaging refers to a special way of displaying vibrations by putting together a great number of successive images of a vibrating object viewed through a thin slit. In medicine, the method has been found particularly well suited for imaging vibrations of the vocal folds, which are the ultimate source of human voice. Here we address the question on which vibratory characteristics of th...

Videokymographic analysis of patients after frontolateral laryngectomy with sternohyoid muscle fl ap reconstruction Analisi videochimografi ca in pazienti sottoposti a laringectomia frontolaterale con ricostruzione con lembo infraioideo

A retrospective study was conducted to analyse videokymographic fi ndings from patients who underwent vertical frontolateral laryngectomy with reconstruction using a sternohyoid muscle fl ap. Overall, 22 patients with T1b and T2 glottic tumours and more than one year of follow-up were studied. Two experienced observers analysed the recorded videokymographic data. A cross-sectional descriptive d...

Imaging vibrating vocal folds with a high speed 1050 nm swept source OCT and ODT

Vocal fold vibration is vital in voice production and the correct pitch of speech. We have developed a high speed functional optical coherence tomography (OCT) system with a center wavelength of 1050 nm and an imaging speed of 100,000 A-lines per second. We imaged the vibration of an ex-vivo swine vocal fold. At an imaging speed of 100 frames per second, we demonstrated high quality vocal fold ...
